Project Overview
Vijay Marolia is currently the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Regal Point Capital, a fast-growing, multi-strategy investment firm. He recently founded Dharma Investing, LLC, to create & fund projects focused on education and entrepreneurship.
Marolia is a seasoned money manager with over 20 years of capital markets experience, specializing in hedge fund and private equity investment strategies. He is also the author of “Baby’s 1st Bu$iness Book,” one of the first business books written for babies.
Marolia is convinced that early education on topics related to personal finance and entrepreneurship is the key to solving the world’s problems. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch, Forbes, Reuters, CBS News, and more, and has given dozens of live TV interviews.
The Problem
During initial talks with Otter PR, it became clear to us that Marolia was looking to be more of an authority in the investing space. We knew that utilizing social media would be a great way to showcase his expertise and insights to a wider audience. However, Marolia struggled with growing his social media following and noted that his online presence had become stagnant and unengaging, causing him to struggle to gain traction as a thought leader in the finance and investing space.
Our team recognized how solving this issue was critical to Marolia’s success. Growing his presence online would not only give him the potential to be exposed to future clients who wished to do business with his firm but also help further establish him as a thought leader in the finance industry — particularly in the growing space of alternative investing strategies.
The Strategy
Our comprehensive media strategy for Marolia primarily focused on securing key opportunities for him to comment on major finance and investing stories through large, top-tier publications — including many radio and podcast outlets — which resulted in several interviews as a subject matter expert. Because Marolia is extremely busy running the daily operations of his businesses, we prioritized opportunities for him to comment on major stories that wouldn’t require him to take much time out of his day to provide comments or valuable insight.
At one point during this process, Marolia mentioned to our team how cryptocurrency and gold were the two largest angles that resonated with his target audience (i.e., anyone trying to invest and build their financial portfolio). As a result, we shifted our focus to pitching Marolia as an investment expert willing to talk about current and projected future movements within these two markets, as gold is a more traditional investment route, and crypto is both a newer and more volatile avenue.
From this shift, we began targeting outlets including Go Banking Rates, Yahoo Finance, Financial Advisor, and Forbes, among others. Furthermore, we utilized our network of journalists and other media professionals to create additional media success stories for Marolia in the form of TV, radio, and podcast interviews, as well as requests for bylined thought leadership articles. This aspect of our strategy saw Marolia featured in CBS News, NTD Business, Cox Radio Tampa, KTRH Radio in Houston, TX, American Trends podcast, the Bright Side podcast, Forbes, and many other outlets.
Business Impact (results)
Since partnering with Otter PR, Marolia has received a total of 125 organic pieces published in the media and nearly 200 additional pickups. As of May 2024, our comprehensive media strategy for his campaign has reached a global audience of 1.8 billion with nearly 23 million exclusive viewers.
However, the largest impact our work has had on Marolia resulted in his social media engagement on X (aka Twitter) skyrocketing, thereby meeting his PR campaign’s primary goal. Between February and May of 2024, his impressions have exceeded 1 million (a 253% increase), resulting in nearly 1,200 new followers (a 556% increase), over 13,000 new likes (a 300% increase), over 77,000 media views (a 301% increase), 1,438 unique replies (a 118% increase), and 981 reposts (a 616% increase).
