Project Overview
Mamaste with Tanika Ray is a podcast hosted by celebrity influencer and former entertainment journalist, Tanika Ray. Launched in October 2021, this mom-centric, nontraditional podcast touches on several lifestyle topics, such as conscious parenting, single parenting, mental health, postpartum issues, and generational trauma healing, particularly in the Black community. Ray’s perspective is filtred through the lens of the Black female experience and resonates with all women in her global community of Mamaste.

The Problem
Although Tanika was already known as an entertainment reporter who had appeared in top media outlets, her podcast, Mamaste, was not as well known. She was seeking press to spread awareness about her podcast and position herself as a thought leader in conscious parenting.
The Strategy
Otter PR pitched Tanika Ray as a commentator and thought leader for trending weekly news topics. Tanika received a tremendous amount of coverage from commenting on the infamous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock. Additionally, Otter PR used topics from Tanika’s podcast episodes to pitch to the media, which included having kids after 40, black generational trauma, and social media detoxing. The topic about generational trauma earned her a guest appearance on the Daytime Emmy award show, Red Table Talk. This strategy eventually led to multiple, top-tier organic media placements and contributor opportunities. Among them were People, BET, Daily Mail, Reader’s Digest, Successful Black Parenting, and Haute Living.

Business Impact (results)
As a result of Otter PR’s partnering with Tanika, she has since reported that her podcast viewership increased, and was extremely impressed with the dedication and quality of work provided by her publicist. She writes, “The magazine articles were plenty, and I was thrilled to appear on Red Table Talk and Cocktails with Queens on Fox Soul where I could speak about the full spectrum of topics discussed in my pod. Initially I was concerned Otter wouldn’t be able to offer me the right person to understand my brand, but my publicist hit it on the head!”
